While his approach towards dating is somewhat misguided (speaking specifically to the spider/walrus metaphor here), the hilarity that ensues is definitely a page-turner. The writing is witty and light, and the (true) plot offers rare and candid insight into the strange world of modern dating. As a woman who as been on dating websites, I can appreciate this unique opportunity to have an honest look into the head of the men on the other side. Like all good literature, it let me try on a new perspective and altered my own in the process. I read it all in one sitting and have already recommended it to a few friends.

Super Herpes: A Nerd’s Harrowing Story of Dating, Debauchery, and Disillusionment in Silicon ValleyWith mountains of work needing to be done, I promised myself I wouldn’t binge this book……aaaaaaaaand then I binge read this book. It is witty and original and raw and unpolish and refreshingly genuine. Colin’s story of his life is told with an authentic innocence and it seems like he is personally invested sharing every single paragraph directly with you. There is an underlying interplay of hilarity, candor, gravitas, and persistant hope that is masterfully balanced. Reader be warned, this is a rollercoaster of emotion and you’ll go from tears of laughter to some seriously somber thoughts. It is a definite must read…and it will definitely be a binge read.

This book is horrifying. And Spirited. And a pretty good time all in all. The perspective is unique, and the earnest misjudgments of the author took the tale from light hearted and amusing to morose and at times downright unsettling. There’s a lot in here to resonate with techies as well as anyone who has had been left bewildered by an unimaginably bad date.

The author brings a lot of heart and personality to bear here; I definitely recommend checking out the “look inside” preview and reading the introduction. This book isn’t for everyone, but if you like what you see in the first few pages, the next few hundred are even more so.
